Question 1

What is the difference between Serum and Vital presets?

Accepted Answer

Serum by Xfer Records uses the .fxp preset format and is a paid wavetable synthesizer widely used in EDM, future bass, and trap. Vital is a free open-source wavetable synth with its own .vital preset format — it offers a similar sound engine at no cost. Presets are not cross-compatible: Serum .fxp files only load in Serum, and Vital presets only load in Vital.

Question 2

How do I install .fxp presets in Serum?

Accepted Answer

Download and extract the preset ZIP, then copy the .fxp files to your Serum presets folder: Documents/Xfer/Serum Presets/Presets/ (Windows) or ~/Music/Xfer/Serum Presets/Presets/ (macOS). Open Serum in your DAW, click the preset name at the top, and choose "Rescan Presets Folder." The new presets appear in the browser immediately.

Question 3

Do presets work across different versions of the same synth?

Accepted Answer

Generally yes — presets are backward-compatible within the same synthesizer. Serum presets made in version 1.3 load correctly in 1.5. Vital presets work across all current Vital releases. Massive presets (.nmsv) require Massive or Massive X — they are not interchangeable. Always check the listed synth version on the download page if a preset uses advanced modulation features.

Question 4

Can I use these presets in commercial music productions?

Accepted Answer

Yes — preset packs on Plugg Supply are cleared for use in commercial music productions including tracks released on Spotify, Apple Music, and YouTube. The presets themselves are not copyrightable as sounds; they are tools that produce output owned by you. Check individual pack licenses for any specific restrictions, though commercial use is permitted in nearly all cases.
