Question 1

What are DAW project files and why are they useful for learning?

Accepted Answer

DAW project files are the native save files of digital audio workstations — .flp for FL Studio, .als for Ableton Live, .logicx for Logic Pro. Opening a project file gives you full access to the entire session: every track, clip, MIDI pattern, plugin setting, mixer routing, and automation. This makes project files one of the most efficient ways to learn music production — you can see exactly how a professional arranged a track, which effects chain they used, how they achieved a specific sound, and replicate those techniques in your own work.

Question 2

What is the difference between FL Studio .flp and Ableton .als project files?

Accepted Answer

.flp is the native project format for FL Studio (Image-Line) and .als is the native format for Ableton Live. These formats are not cross-compatible — you cannot open an .flp in Ableton or an .als in FL Studio directly. Each project file stores data specific to its DAW's workflow: FL Studio uses a pattern-based step sequencer approach, while Ableton uses Session View and Arrangement View clips. When downloading a project from Plugg Supply, check the download page to confirm which DAW version is required.

Question 3

Do I need the same plugins to open a project file?

Accepted Answer

Ideally yes — a project file references specific VST plugins and samples used in the session. If you open a project and a plugin is missing, your DAW will substitute it with a placeholder or leave that channel silent. For the best experience, install the same plugins listed in the project description. Many project files on Plugg Supply are built with free plugins (Vital, Serum, stock DAW instruments) so you can open them without paid software. Sample paths may also need to be redirected if the project uses external audio files.
